Veeam Disaster Recovery Solutions

Minimizing downtime with disaster recovery (DR)

Microsoft provides powerful services within Office 365 – but a comprehensive backup of your Office 365 data is not one of them. Of over 1,000 IT Pros surveyed, 81% experienced data loss in Office 365 – from simple user error to major data security threats.

The Always-On Enterprise™ needs to deliver their services non-stop and provide employees, partners and customers with 24.7.365 data access. Critical applications should be available anytime with no tolerance for downtime. Utilizing replication, DR solutions can reduce services downtime from hours to minutes. They provide tight RTOs and allow businesses to keep their critical applications up and running at all times.

People traditionally think of DR as requiring huge investments in hardware and software as well as the need to build and maintain secondary site. Things have changed. With the flexibility of virtualization and the adoption of cloud technologies, there are alternatives to “do it yourself” DR — most notably, disaster recovery-as-a-service (DRaaS).

Whether you prefer keeping DR in-house or would prefer to find a trusted DRaaS provider, Veeam® has you covered.

Product Overview

VMware and Hyper-V disaster recovery

Veeam Availability Suite™ 9.5 ensures the Availability of your virtualized applications with recovery time and point objectives, or RTPO™ of < 15 minutes for ALL applications and data. Built from Veeam Backup & Replication™, Veeam Availability Suite is a full-scale DR solution with flexible and powerful DR tools. It provides VM backup and advanced image-based VM replication for VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V environments. And, with Veeam Availability Suite, you have the ability to replicate off site to a secondary site, or replicate through Veeam Cloud Connect to a DRaaS provider of your choice.

Advanced replication for a reliable disaster recovery

Implement Veeam Availability Suite and you’ll get cost-effective replication with near-continuous data Availability. Take advantage of host-to-host replication for DR, or create uncompressed ready-to-use replicas from backup files and avoid any impact on your production environment. Replicate as often as your SLAs require! Veeam also supports 1-click failover orchestration and assisted failback, so you get a DR solution with little to no business interruption. If a primary VM goes down, you can immediately fail over to a standby replica and avoid downtime of your critical workloads.

Veeam Availability Suite supports both on-site replication for High Availability and off-site replication for DR of Hyper-V and VMware VMs.

Built-in WAN acceleration

Disaster recovery best practices recommend that you keep a standby replica at a safe distance away from you primary data center. Off-site replication will save critical workloads in case of a primary data center failure. Veeam provides built-in WAN acceleration for replication. This technology increases the speed of data transfer across the WAN up to 50x without additional bandwidth. Built-in WAN acceleration compresses data traffic and eliminates the need to deploy a general-purpose WAN accelerator appliance for DR.

SureReplica*

Veeam makes DR reliable with SureReplica technology that enables automated verification of every VMware replica. SureReplica boots the VM replica to the necessary restore point in an isolated Virtual Lab and runs scripted tests against applications. Do you need to test and troubleshoot application upgrades and patches? You can do it safely and easily with SureReplica! SureReplica provides the peace-of-mind that if your application goes down, you can successfully failover with little to no business interruption.

1-click failover orchestration

Built-in failover orchestration enables easy 1-click site failover to minimize unplanned downtime. Veeam Availability Suite lets you create predetermined failover plans for a group of replicated VMs, which you need to boot simultaneously or in a specific order. In case of an emergency, you just need to initiate a saved failover plan in one click. You can even launch your DR plan remotely from your phone or tablet through the Veeam’s web UI, which is available with Veeam Enterprise Manager.

Planned failover and failback

Planned failover scenarios in Veeam Availability Suite simplify data center migrations and planned maintenance. Planned failover moves the workload from the production VMs to the DR site replicas. Migration or maintenance operations will run with a minimum impact on its users and without any data loss. Wizard-driven planned failover synchronizes all changes from source VMs to the replicas. Once you finish, you can failback to your primary data center.

Cloud-based disaster recovery with Veeam

With Veeam Cloud Connect Replication, you can ensure Availability of your mission-critical applications with fully integrated, fast and secure cloud-based DR through a DRaaS provider of your choice. As a built-in DRaaS solution, you can use a Veeam-powered cloud provider to host your off-site repositories, disaster recovery infrastructure and replicas.

Veeam Cloud Connect Replication is a fully integrated DRaaS-enabling technology purpose-built for VMware and Hyper-V disaster recovery. Instead of building and maintaining a second facility for disaster recovery, simply point your replication jobs to the cloud. That easy! Veeam Cloud Connect Replication is available for all end users at no additional charge and with no additional licensing required. However, you will need to acquire a subscription to the appropriate computer and/or storage resources from a service provider of your choice in order to utilize it. Image-based replication with Veeam Cloud Connect Replication is cost-efficient and easy to use:

  • cloud host for DR with CPU, RAM, storage and networking resource allocation from a service provider
  • Full-site failover to a remote DR site from anywhere through a secure web portal. Partial-site failover to instantly switch over to selected VM replicas only
  • Single-port connectivity via a secure SSL/TLS connection to a service provider with traffic encryption

Supported platforms

Veeam Availability Suite and Veeam Cloud Connect Replication support both VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V environments. They cover the latest hypervisor releases, including VMware vSphere 6 and Windows Server 2016 Hyper-V.
